Setup Cursor AI

Setup Cursor AI free trial and ensure you stay signed in

Close Cursor

Close Cursor application completely

Locate Config File

Navigate to the configuration file location based on your operating system:

Windows:%APPDATA%\Cursor\User\globalStorage\storage.json

macOS:~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/globalStorage/storage.json

Linux:~/.config/Cursor/User/globalStorage/storage.json

Tip: Copy the path above and paste it into your file manager's address bar to quickly navigate to the file.

Backup File

Create a backup of storage.json before making any changes

Update Configuration

Edit storage.json and update the following fields:

Quick Tip: Use your text editor's search and replace function (usually Ctrl+H or Cmd+H) to quickly replace all instances of the old machine ID with your new one.

1. Open the find/replace dialog
2. Paste the existing machine ID in the "Find" field
3. Paste your new ID in the "Replace with" field
4. Click "Replace All" to update all instances

Restart Cursor

Save the file and restart Cursor to apply the changes
